Mission:
Clark's Valley seeks to preserve and enhance the rural character and natural integrity of Southern Indiana through land stewardship, education, and partnership.

Overview:

George Rogers Clark Land Trust, a non-profit, community-based, voluntary organization, serves as one tool to landowners who seek methods to preserve their land for future generations or to blance development areas with agricultural land, scenic open spaces and wildlife habitat.

History:

In 1999, evolving from an effort of the Clark County Soil and Water conservation District's Land Use and Community Development Committee, Clark's Valley Land Trust began to take shape. The founders coordinated with Historic Hoosier Hills Resource Conservation and Development Area, and Clark's Valley Land Trust operates as a project committee within the Historic Hoosier Hills RC&D under their 501 (c)3 status. Articles of Incorporation were filed, and official approval by the Indiana Secretary of State was received on June 15, 2000. In 2006 the membership of the land trust voted favorably to change the name of the land trust to George Rogers Clark Land Trust.

Benefits of Affiliation:

George Rogers Clark Land Trust offers landowners and the community vital opportunities:

Landowners can enter into a legal agreement to restrict the development on their property. Through this agreement, called a conservation easement, landowners convey the right to the Land Trust to enforce the restrictions. The Land Trust monitors landowners' property and ensures that the wishes that landowners described in their conservation easements are maintained for the time period agreed upon between the landowner and the Land Trust.

Landowners may receive income and estate tax benefits when the conservation easement is held by a tax-exempt conservation organization like George Rogers Clark Land Trust.

Landowners can control the destiny of their property for the enjoyment of their future family members and the community.

Overall, affiliating with George Rogers Clark Land Trust means that landowners voluntarily select a solution that protects their land as they wish.
