Clark here. Spokesperson for clean water in Clark County, and resident stormwater expert. You may have heard of me in your history lessons. I'm the same Clark that journeyed across the United States with Lewis exploring new lands. Back when I made that journey, we navigated many streams, lakes, and rivers across the continent. When we camped, we thought nothing of taking a bucketful of water from a nearby stream and drinking from it, cooking with it, or bathing in it. Things are a lot different nowadays. You can't just wander down the streambank and fill 'er up. Our streams are filled with pollutants, and our water has to be treated and purified before it can be used. Why is that, you say, and why can't something be done about it? Well, something is being done. The State of Indiana recently passed regulations to control "stormwater runoff," which is a major pollutant in Indiana's waterways. Controlling stormwater runoff is a big step towards cleaning up our water resources. That's where I come in. On these pages, I've been asked to explain stormwater runoff to you: what it is, how it is being controlled, and what you can do to help clean it up. I'll also give you a stormwater "who's in charge of what" list so you'll know who to call with questions or concerns. So enough of this introductory stuff.
